The UK’s planning system remains a barrier to growth and thriving businesses are feeling the impact of this.
This video goes behind-the-scenes of one such business, Overclockers, a prospering ecommerce company that has grown three-fold in 18 months, and requires more warehouse space. A more efficient and effective planning system would enable such businesses to scale their logistics operations at the speed the UK economy needs.
Logistics businesses are critical to the national infrastructure; they underpin the supply chains across the country and support economic growth.
Dedicated logistics parks in key locations and conurbations with interconnected transportation networks offer quality warehouse space that support the way we live our lives today. They ensure we get the goods and products we need, at the time we need them.
The Logistics sector has undergone enormous technological change, and is no longer solely powered by manual labour. The sector creates a range of high quality, high skilled and high waged jobs.
Establishing modern logistics parks across the country will play a huge part of the government’s levelling-up agenda, with over 70% of demand for Industrial and Logistics spaces coming from the North of England and the Midlands*.
There is a desire to address regional inequalities, but our planning system remains a barrier and is restricting growth by not allocating sufficient land for logistics parks quickly enough. To fully realise levelling up, it is vital we create a more agile planning system that is more responsive to the sector’s ever-growing needs.

St. Modwen Logistics has commenced the final phase of activity at St. Modwen Park Burton, which will see the delivery of five high-quality logistics units totalling c. 400,000 sq ft.
