The latest buildings include energy efficiency features such as photovoltaic solar panels, electric vehicle charging points and offer a BREEAM Excellent rating, allowing the customers to reduce energy consumption and, ultimately, save on their energy bills.
These buildings benefit from ‘air to water’ heat pumps, where heat from the air – or heat waste from the office – is used to heat the domestic hot water for handwashing, cleaning and showering. This system is more efficient than using electric water heaters. Sustainable drainage solutions and balancing ponds have been installed which act as a flood defence for excess water, reducing flood risks and allaying community fears of previous flooding issues. The balancing ponds also offer a natural habitat for local wildlife.
Prior to development, the disused, water-logged farm land attracted a variety of wildlife including bats and badgers. To preserve these species, all the creatures were rehomed safely, using cameras to particular monitor the badgers’ movements, to ensure their safety. In a bid to attract further species, we planted almost 20,000 native trees and shrubs across the site, over 6,800 native whips, 11,500 woodland feather and transplants, 11,000m2 of native woodland blocks, around 550 linear meters of native hedgerow and over 6500m2 of structural planting to encourage habitat creation.
We aim to enhance the living environment of our local communities and neighbours, and ensure it is a safe, attractive and pleasant area to live. To help do this, our wellbeing amenities are available for their use: we supported the reduction of the speed limit on the nearby road to decrease the risk of road traffic accidents; the flood defences in place reduce the risk of local flooding, and we have supplied fibre broadband with world-wide connectivity to homes in the immediate vicinity.
